Introduction
The Adtec Phakic Lens (APL) is a precisely engineered intraocular medical device
designed to provide internal correction of refractive errors. By compensating for the eye’s
optical aberrations within the anterior chamber, the APL minimizes or eliminates the patient’s
dependence on external refractive aids such as spectacles or contact lenses.
This intraocular solution offers enhanced visual acuity, stable refractive outcomes, and
preservation of corneal integrity, thereby improving the patient’s overall visual
performance and quality of life.
The APL incorporates an optically centred micro-hole that facilitates physiological
aqueous humour circulation from the posterior to the anterior chamber. This feature
negates the requirement for a peripheral iridectomy by enabling a direct and controlled
pathway for fluid movement, thereby maintaining stable intraocular pressure and reducing
postoperative complications.
The Adtec APL is designed with a vaulted radial profile to maintain a defined clearance between the posterior surface of the phakic IOL and the anterior surface of the crystalline lens. This configuration ensures no direct contact with either the posterior iris or crystalline lens, allowing unimpeded aqueous circulation. The optimized vaulting and edge contouring help prevent pigmentary dispersion, cataract genesis, and other late-onset complications, ensuring long-term ocular safety and stability.
